Lecture-Demonstration at Manila Tytana Colleges: Raw Food Preparation Class 22

This is my first class raw food class for 2015.  While it only lasted for 4 hours, the preparation took a few days and I had to hire two assistants.  It was fun, as all raw food classes are.  The lecture covered the basics and components of a raw vegan lifestyle to transitioning to the lifestyle to raw food in the Philippine setting and then food preparation demonstration.  The attendees are Holistic Nutrition with Culinary Arts program students.

While the students seemed happy with the lecture and discussion, I admit I feel a bit sad that they were not too happy with the food.  They said it is an acquired taste.  But I learned my lesson.  Next time, I’ll prepare food that even non-vegetarians would love.

Peppermint Tea

I just got home from a raw food lecture and demonstration at Manila Tytana Colleges (formerly Manila Doctors College).

Feeling a bit tired but I know exactly what I needed.  I went to the kitchen and got myself some dried peppermint leaves (I dried them myself), warmed some water, and I’m set for a relaxing afternoon.

Thought you might want try them and have a relaxing Raw Food Tuesday tea.

How to make this tea…

Unsoy-Pear Salad

I’d been spending holidays in my hometown.  I call it my “super extended vacation”.  I stayed in Cavite from December 24 until January 9, went back to the city to teach a Saturday yoga class but as soon as I found out that January 17 is holiday, I packed my bag and was back home on January 14 for an extended Christmas vacation.

One thing I love about being in Indang, Cavite is I get to find vegetables that are never available in Quezon City.  One such vegetable is unsoy.  I asked my aunt for its English name and she said it’s coriander.  Still it’s different from the coriander that I find in Quezon City.  They smell the same but coriander has bigger leaves while unsoy has very thin leaves, more like pine trees, and they taste different too.  I love unsoy better.

I’ve always loved eating unsoy salad.  Normally, we eat it with onions and tomatoes.  Since, I couldn’t find tomatoes, I had to make do with left over fruits (the 12 +1 round fruits) from New Year.

So, here’s the recipe for this Unsoy-Pear Salad:
