The Mala Beads Project

One prayer.  One bead.  One mala at a time.

It was January 27, 2021 when we rushed our father to the hospital.  He said he was in pain and it’s probably his gallbladder.  My father is not one to complain of pain and request for hospital care, so we knew it was serious.  What followed was a series of tests, meetings with doctors, and thirteen nights in the hospital only to be sent home in the end to wait for his death while praying for a miracle.

Stage 4 liver cancer.

We tried a holistic doctor and went plant-based which gave birth to The Big V: Befriending the big C with a Vegan diet.  For 189 days, we tried to record his meals in the hopes that it will someday inspire cancer patients.  Though his cancer stayed, his diabetes was cured after just a month.

While we were hopeful, we knew we were nearing the end.  Thus, The Mala Beads Project.  The goal is to create 108 mala beads and with each bead, send a prayer for healing.

After just the 5th project, on August 17, 2021, Tatay joined our Creator.  But the project will continue.  It will not be for his healing anymore but for those he left behind and those who are experiencing the pain of losing a loved one.

The beads are in no way perfect.  But having something to hold on to and guide you in your prayers is what I wish to share with others.  Yes, I understand your pain and your wishes, and I know nothing anyone say can ease the sadness but just pray and hold on to these Mala Beads until it is time to let go.

I am selling some of these and those I will create for Php817.  Eight-one-seven for August 17.  I wish through this; you will know that we are never alone in our sadness.
